Blanche Morrogh, CEO, Kai Ora and Hana Botanicals is an award winning young Maori business leader, who is proud to be born and raised in Te Tai Tokerau, in the Far North of New Zealand.
Kai Ora arose from the vision of her late grandmother Saana Murray and father Rapine Murray. Blanche has taken their vision and looked at ways to create value added products utilising the resources from our native forests, expanding Kai Ora’s product range to include native honeys, sauces, skincare and health products.
Blanche is passionate about creating opportunities for all in her local community. She is leading initiatives that will see Māori landowners in the Far North maximise the economic potential of their unused or under-utilised land through generating additional income by planting Mānuka for oil production or extracting oil from already established wild Mānuka & Kanuka trees on their land.
She believes that Maori are to be the global market leaders of new industries forged from indigenous flora and fauna, proven by Western Science and protected by and for Aotearoa.
Blanche resides in Ahipara with her husband and two young children and is currently in the process of building an off-grid home, while regenerating the native wetlands and creating a subtropical food forest.
Blanche Morrogh, CEO of Kai Ora Honey, talks about overcoming export hurdles, marketing a Māori business internationally, and amplifying the company’s brand positioning online.
We are a family led business, and we work in collaboration with partnerships with other Maori beekeepers and businesses as well as Iwi.
First and foremost it’s all about kaitiaki, taking care of our land and the bees. Manaaki is a big part of who we are as a whanau, that leads on to aroha, and that’s showing love not only to our families but to our extended whanaungatanga, making sure that we all flourish together.
