This Honey Garlic Salmon is a super simple way to serve salmon that is just sooooo crazy quick and delicious! Just what you need when you've got a hungry whanau to feed.
We love serving this salmon dish with fresh green veggies out of our garden. At the moment we're loving broccoli and asian greens, just lightly steam cook them and you'll have dinner on the table in no time. My kids love to eat this with rice, or you can add mashed veggies or some fresh bread to mop up all the delicious caramelised honey sauce.
Ingredients
For the sauce
- 1/4 cup Kai Ora Rewarewa honey
- 1/4 cup Kai Ora Caramelised Manuka Balsamic Sauce
- 2 tsp crushed garlic
For the salmon
- 2 salmon fillets (skinless)
- olive oil
- salt and pepper
Method
Take salmon out of the fridge 15-20 minutes before cooking. Pat salmon fillets dry with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper.
Combine all the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl and set aside.
Place oil in frypan and heat on medium high, then add in your salmon fillets and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on the first side and 2 to 3 minutes on the second side for a standard fillet that’s about 2.5cm at the thickest part.
This will ensure your salmon is perfectly cooked to medium rare – so the flesh flakes when you cut into it, and is a beautiful soft coral colour inside rather than a pale pink / white. Salmon is a fatty fish so it’s more forgiving than other fish if slightly overcooked.
Pour your honey garlic sauce over the salmon and cook for another minute until or until it starts to thicken slightly. Check the side of the salmon to tell how cooked through the middle is - I like mine medium rare inside. If Sauce thickens too much before your salmon is cooked to your taste, just add 1 tablespoon of water at a time.
Remove from pan and place on serving plate, drizzle with the sauce from the pan and garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions if desired. Enjoy!
